ABOUT CDCQ

Founded in 1989, the Centre de développement des composites du Québec  - Composite Development Centre of Quebec (CDCQ) is a College Centre for the Transfer of Technology (CCTT) that is part of Synchronex, the CCTT network. Since March 2020, the CDCQ has been a Technology Access Centre (TAC) of Canada and a member of the Tech-Access Canada network, a national network of innovation and applied research across Canada.

The CDCQ helps companies in the composite value chain with applied research, technical assistance, and information dissemination services, enabling them to improve the quality and performance of their products. For the realization of projects, the Centre benefits from a multifunctional workshop with equipment covering most industrial processes. A state-of-the-art material testing laboratory with ISO 17025 accreditation completes the service offering.

CDCQ's experts, engineers, and technicians have the skills and expertise needed to provide innovative solutions for entrepreneurs looking to improve their skills and prosper in a competitive environment here in Quebec, Canada, and around the world.

The Centre offers a range of services to exploit the full potential of new technologies, with the ultimate goal of transferring both the technology and the intellectual property to industry.

The CDCQ has access to key grants to help  finance innovative technology research projects for its clients.

EQUIPMENT AND LABS

Equipment Function
3D Printer - Stratasys Fortus 900MC Realization of large, complex shapes and undercuts, automation and optimization of tooling, reduction of tool manufacturing times, these are some of the many advantages now possible thanks to our high capacity 3D printer.
Precursor mixing / heating equipment The mixing and injection of thermoplastic precursors is now possible thanks to this equipment. These thermoplastics can therefore be molded using the same molds and the same reinforcements as traditional composite materials.
Horizontal mixer - Littleford M-5 Mixer for BMC
100t baler - Carver CMC100H-18-CLPX This press allows the shaping of thermosetting materials. It has heating and cooling trays.
Pyrolysis reactor - Pyrovac This equipment is mainly involved in the carbon fiber recycling value chain, with the aim of reuse in a new product. The reactor makes it possible to recover good quality fibers as well as a pyrolysis oil.
Rheometer - TA Instruments DHR-2 We often know the viscosity of a resin at a given temperature. But what about the rheological properties over time, as a function of the temperature or of the stresses subjected? These data will, among other things, optimize your process!
Eastman cutting table Eastman brand static cutting table that cuts, marks, pierces and punches virtually any flexible material at speeds of up to 60 inches per second (152.4 cm / s). The static table has proven to be the go-to resource for materials like cotton, nylon and vinyl as well as difficult-to-cut materials - such as polystrand, p-tex, and fiberglass-polyester blends.
Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA) - TA Instruments Q800 The Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) apparatus is used to measure the mechanical properties related to temperature dynamically.
Thermography Camera - FLIR T630SC Depending on the molding processes used, it is often impossible to follow the impregnation of the reinforcements and the filling of the mold directly, to know the hot spots or to follow the crosslinking. This camera then becomes our eyes!
Convection oven - Pyradia 90-150M1 Used for baking and post-baking (heat treatment) of materials containing organic resins.
150 kN Universal Testing Machine - Instron 5900R5584 Universal testing machine for performing tensile, compression, shear, bending, looting tests, capacity 150 kN (33,750 lbf)

Two-component injection pump for RTM Epoxy and urethane - Magnum Venus Product DP-1000 Can mix two components: proportions between 1: 1 and 4: 1. Applications: spray and RTM. Mainly: mixture of polyurethanes and epoxy resin.
Pyrolysis oven - Pyradia F50HP Used for pyrolysis (combustion) of polymeric matrices of composite materials according to ASTM D2582
IR lamps Packaging and preforming of raw materials, control, curing and post curing of parts, these are some examples of the usefulness of this equipment which covers several areas of the electromagnetic spectrum.
